A Cozy Snow Day Read โ„๏ธ | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader, I hope you're having a restful weekend and staying safe if you're in an area affected by the snow and ice storms. Let's dive into this week's updates and tips.

What's New With You?

To commemorate my last few months in the city, I made a NYC bucket list filled with some mundane activities and true "once-in-a-lifetime" experiences. This week, I checked TWO things off that list:

๐ŸŽฌ Attend a live show taping

You can get free tickets for SO many NYC shows. I scored tickets to a live recording of the Tamron Hall show with Kenan Thompson as the guest. What an unforgettable moment!

โญ๏ธ Eat at a Michelin Star restaurant

My bank account may not appreciate some of my bucket list activities, but it's NYC Restaurant Week, so I had no choice. I tried a French spot, Nougatine by Jean-Georges, and it was delicious.

Today, I am soaking in the warmth of my FIGS pajamas (use code MorganMFirstFIGS for 15% off) as NYC has already received 14 inches of snow. This is the coldest winter and the most snow we've gotten since I moved here.

Bundle up, and chat soon!

- Morgan :)

Applied this Cycle and Waiting to Hear Back?

If you applied in the 2025-2026 medical school application cycle and have not heard back yet, here are a few things I would recommend.

First, send a combined letter of continued interest and update letter. You can read more on those and find an example here.

Secondly, if you have not received any interview invites, it's time to start thinking about the reapplication process.

If you'd like an in-depth review of your application materials, including a school list assessment and 1:1 strategy session, just reply to this email. All packages include enrollment in From Applicant to Accepted and start at $600.

Any questions? Just respond to this email, and we can chat!

This week, I'm continuing my series on research in medical school.

My third research came through an incredible opportunity with the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Emerging Leaders Institute. I was challenged to develop a policy or public-health related project in my community.

I created an educational series on high blood pressure, specifically targeted toward Black men in Staten Island. The project is still ongoing, but it has been a transformative experience - from idea development and team building to survey writing and implementation.

This project has taught me that I'm most passionate about research that educates and directly impacts communities.

If you have been following along with this series, you know that I've had some tumultuous research experiences throughout my medical school journey. Next week, I'll wrap up this series with some final tips on navigating research in medical school.

Match Day Countdown

Count down to 2026-03-20T16:00:00.000Zโ€‹

Well - if I wasn't stressed last week, I definitely am now! This week, my school had a session discussing rank lists and The Match. It gave me a lot to think about in terms of how to rank programs, sending letters of intent, and what priorities matter most.

Before I wrap up, two important reminders:

โœ… NRMP Registration

First, if you applied to residency this year, you also have to register with the NRMP. The deadline to register (without a late fee) is Friday, January 30. More details here.

๐Ÿ‘€ Early Match Support

Second, send your friends applying into Ophthalmology and Urology thoughts and prayers. Ophtho match day results are released on Thursday, January 29 and Urology results are released Monday, February 2. Good luck!

Hi Reader, I hope you're having a restful weekend and staying warm! Let's dive into this week's updates and tips. First day out after the snow. First stop? Starbucks! What's New With You? This week was very much an inside week because we got so much snow last weekend. I kept looking out my window, and the idea of tackling all of that snow (without snow boots) did not sit well with my soul. I finally ventured outside on Tuesday, and have been doing some mini hot girl walks and trying new...

Hi Reader, I hope you're having a restful weekend and easing into 2026! Let's dive into this week's updates and tips. What's New With You? Y'ALL!! I am really sticking with my New Year's resolutions, and I am SO proud of myself. I've been drinking my water, going on "hot girl" walks around NYC, practicing Spanish with Duolingo, and spending less money at Starbucks. Two weeks in, and I feel like I can really keep these up! Fourth year of medical school feels like the most free time I've ever...

Hi Reader - Happy New Year! Let's dive into this week's updates and tips. What's New With You? First of all, Happy New Year! As I was scrolling on social media, I saw a post that said, "This will be the first new year where I won't think about starting over, but continuing, because I'm finally on the right path." I resonated so much with that. I don't have any crazy resolutions or total 180s I want to do in life. Rather, I want to continue doing what I'm doing - but just do it better: serve...
