I'M A RESIDENCY APPLICANT | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader - I hope you're having a restful Sunday! This week, I'm catching you up on my residency application status + continuing my interview prep series and The Match Corner. Let's get into it!

What's New with You?

I AM A RESIDENCY APPLICANT!!!! It feels SO weird to type this, but it's real. On Friday, I submitted my ERAS application (and dropped a few hundred dollars) - which means I am officially a Family Medicine applicant for Match 2026. Applications are released to programs this upcoming Wednesday, I am praying for interviews to roll in and God to place me exactly where He's planned for the next phase of my journey!

While that seems like a major deal (and it is!!), somehow so many other things happened this week. I started a virtual Breastfeeding and Lactation course. It has been so interesting to learn more about the process and ways to support breastfeeding individuals, and I know it'll be such helpful information to have in my back pocket as I progress through my career!

Then, my cousins came into town for the weekend, and we had a BLAST!! From seeing Cabaret to Central Park to DUMBO, we packed so much into the weekend. My muscles are on fire and my body is exhausted, but I am so thankful that I live here and get to show people around my city!!!

Medical School Interview Series Pt. 4

Next in this series, we will dive into the top THREE mistakes I see applicants make during medical school interviews.

#2 - Nonverbal Communication

In the age of virtual interviews, nonverbal communication is tough. But eye contact with your camera (vs. the screen), having a simple background (preferably without needing to blur your background), and engaging through the screen make a difference.

As I've been doing mock interviews with applicants, I give comments on all of these things because first impressions matter + biases exist. Trust me - I get it! Living in NYC, there is simply nowhere in my apartment where I have a solid background. If I sit on my desk, my bed is behind me. So, I have to go to my medical school campus for interviews. But it's worth it to me to avoid having a distracting background.

WE GOT THIS!!!

What do you want to see in The Med Student Corner next? Reply to this email and let me know!

GOOD LUCK to everyone that has submitted or plans to submit in the next few days! Just a reminder that you CAN submit before all of your letters of recommendation are in. This is the process I followed:

  1. Certify + Submit my application
  2. Save all the programs I am interested in applying to
  3. Assign my letters of recommendation, photo, USMLE scores, etc., to each program
  4. APPLY to the programs (+ pay!)
