Interviews, POCUS, and Freedom | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader - I hope you're having a restful Sunday! This week, I'm dropping ALL the tea on my residency application cycle + life as a fourth year med student!

Before we dive in, if you have applied to medical school this cycle, please take 2-3 minutes to complete this Mid-Application Cycle Feedback form.

Let's get into it!

What's New with You?

Last week, I started my Emergency Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) elective. In the mornings, I watch pre-recorded ultrasound lectures, and in the afternoons, I do "scan shifts" with emergency medicine residents and fellows in the emergency department. I am still struggling with all of the views and details, but I am starting to get better at recognizing and understanding what I'm seeing on the ultrasound!

In other news, I hit a huge milestone in residency interviews! I finished my last virtual interview. I still have one more to wrap up interview season, but it will be in person in a few weeks.

Before interviewing, people told me that all of the programs would start to run together in my brain...and they were right! But luckily, I've been keeping a running rank list + recording "reaction" videos immediately after each interview. It still seems surreal that I will be a WHOLE doctor in 2026, but I am excited to see where The Match and next year takes me.

Until then, I am enjoying the luxuries of being a fourth year medical student! I am traveling this week to visit some family for Thanksgiving then escaping the NYC winter weather for a Caribbean cruise shortly after.

I hope you have a wonderful, delicious food-filled Thanksgiving holiday! Chat soon!

- Morgan :)
