Spring has Sprung | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader! Happy Sunday, and welcome to our weekly check-in. I can't believe we are already in May - 2025 is FLYING. Keep reading to see what's been going on with me in NYC and what resources I have available for you!

What's New with You?

On Friday, I wrapped up my first sub-I. Sub-Is, short for sub-internships, are rotations that fourth-year medical students complete where you act at the level of an intern, or a first-year resident. My first sub-I was Critical Care Medicine, which I spent at the VA SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit). You can read all about it here!

Tomorrow, I start my Pediatrics Sub-I. I am nervous since Sub-Is are graded (vs. electives that are P/F). I want to impress, of course, but honestly, I am excited to spend more time in pediatrics and hopefully gain a better understanding of how much (or how little) pediatrics I want to do in my future career as a Family Medicine physician.

Outside of the hospital, but still related to academics, I have been preparing for residency application season. I applied to one away rotation and was accepted for August 2025!! I am very excited, but now I am trying to get all of the logistics settled - housing, onboarding, etc.

Outside of medicine, I have been soaking up the LOVELY weather in NYC. Last week, I went to the coolest event to celebrate the launch of Cetaphil's new product line. And then yesterday was seriously just the most perfect day. I spent the morning volunteering at a food pantry, then did some thrift shopping with friends, and ended the evening with an outdoor happy hour. Thank goodness for this life!!

- Morgan :)

Sharing my top 3 tips for the surgery clerkship rotation!

  • Grab a suture kit and practice your suturing and knot-tying skills
  • Know if your patients need dressing changes on rounds and stock your pockets with the necessary materials (gauze, paper tape, etc.)
  • Prep for your cases - understand your patients' indications for surgery and pertinent anatomy for the case
