Step 1, Secondaries, and My Fitness Journey | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader - I hope you're having a restful Sunday! This week, I’m recapping my summer plans, sharing secondary application tips, and some USMLE Step 1 tips!

What's New with You?

Somehow, I keep finding ways to keep myself busy! This week, I found out about a conference opportunity, so I have been working around the clock to write an abstract and prepare a poster.

In the midst of that, I can't forget about ERAS. So, after some feedback, I wrote the second draft of my personal statement for ERAS and sent it for revisions. It still feels surreal that I am applying to residency this year, but thankfully, I have some amazing mentors in my corner who are guiding me through this process.

Other than that, I have been taking advantage of the flexibility that summer brings to go to the gym more regularly and eat more home-cooked meals. You can follow my weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey here!

And lastly, I hopped back on the road again yesterday for a wedding and to visit my sister, so head over to my Instagram story to see what we get into this upcoming week.

If you are wondering where to start with secondary applications, here are the 3 prompts I would prewrite first:

  • Adversity
  • Diversity
  • Why X School

I will be diving into all of these prompts, including tips and examples from my secondary applications in my Secondaries Made Simple series on Instagram. Make sure to turn on post notifications, so you don't miss out!

If you need a bit more help, check out A Step by Step Guide to Secondary Applications for only $59. By enrolling in this course, you also receive 15% off ALL secondary application reviews.

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your application journey!

USMLE Step Prep

I am excited for this new series in The Med Student Corner. First, let's chat about how you can prepare for Step 1 during your preclinical years.

The best thing that you can do, in my opinion, is to focus on your coursework. There is a lot of pressure to use outside resources early, but just start with adjusting to medical school.

Identify the learning styles that work best for you, find a good study group, and aim to learn concepts (not just memorize) to do well on your exam.
