Crashing out about my BLS Certification, Football is Back, and More | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader - I hope you're having a restful Sunday! This week, I'm catching you up on the last MONTH of my life, continuing my interview prep series and The Match Corner. Let's get into it!

What's New with You?

I swear it feels like I am always saying this, but I am so serious. LIFE IS GOOD!!!

Life got busy at the end of August as I transitioned to the inpatient family medicine service for the last two weeks of my away rotation. Working 6 days in a row was A LOT, so I need to mentally prepare for residency, but I delivered TWO babies by myself, which was the coolest experience! There are seriously no words to describe the feeling of being the first person to welcome a little one into this world. Here are my away rotation recaps in case you missed them! Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4.

I celebrated finishing my rotation with a lake weekend + Clemson football. Even though Clemson lost (and it seems like it's going to be a LONG season), I had so much fun with my family + my best friend's family!

After that, I did absolutely nothing for a week at home, then snuck in one final beach weekend with my mom + sister before flying back to NYC.

It is so weird how I feel 0 guilt sitting around and doing nothing all day at home, but when I am in NYC, I feel like I have to be on 24/7??! Honestly, it's working out for the best right now because ERAS is due in 13 days. Time is FLYING!

Medical School Interview Series Pt. 3

Next in this series, we will dive into the top THREE mistakes I see applicants make during medical school interviews.

#1 - Preparation

I highly recommend preparing for interviews through brainstorming your answers to common prompts and mock interviewing. But you don't want to prepare too much and end up sounding rehearsed. If you rehearse and forget a part of your response on interview day, then you get flustered. Interviews should flow like a conversation, so prepare, but don't rehearse. For example, for the Tell Me About Yourself question, I knew I wanted to highlight...

  • My upbringing (living in the same town + house my entire life)
  • Undergrad experience @ Clemson
  • Hobbies

...but every time I answered this question, the response flowed a bit differently!

This month, we are continuing to focus on our MS1s. I have gotten a lot of DMs about all things surviving medical school. The transition is TOUGH, and medical school is HARD...but you can do it!

As you transition and navigate this new journey, remember to focus on YOU + your wellness. That means, figure out your priorities (whether that is church, sports, family, hobbies, etc.), and make time to incorporate them. And if you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, reach out to your school's support services EARLY! I started therapy a few months into my MS1 year, and it has been such an amazing journey. I loved this post shared this week for Suicide Prevention Month, highlighting how our generation of medical students + physicians are being more open about our mental health!

As I embark on the ERAS 2026 cycle + Match 2026, I can't wait to bring you all along on this journey AND share everything I learn along the way.

This week, I had a mini crash out because I realized that my BLS had expired, and I saw some people include that certification in their ERAS. Turns out, you have to re-do BLS, ACLS, etc. before starting residency (and most programs cover the cost), so it's literally no worries. If this was on your to-do list to figure out (or not), now you know!!
