Sub-I Life, Advocacy in Action, and Med School App Season | Weekly Newsletter

Hi Reader - I hope your Sunday is off to a restful start. This week I’m diving into my experience with family medicine advocacy, sharing neurology rotation tips, and dropping some reminders for those of you applying this cycle!

What's New with You?

I just wrapped up Week 2 of my Pediatrics Sub-I. All the details on what a sub-I rotation are here! I hit some huge milestones this week - pulled my first central line in a neonate, saw a Pott's Puffy Tumor, and did a full patient discharge (med rec, summary, instructions, organizing transportation, and more!).

Thankfully, my hours weren't too bad (47.5 hours this week) because I headed straight to the train station after my shift on Friday to head to Albany for the NY State Academy of Family Physicians' Congress of Delegates. This is where everyone comes together to determine policies and advocacy actions that the Academy will pursue over the next year. It is always great to connect with other students and family physicians, and they spoiled us this weekend with amazing food, fun, and stimulating conversation!

Unfortunately, that means I will be ***EXHAUSTED*** going into this week, but it has been well worth it!

- Morgan :)

I am also adding spots as often as possible for application reviews here. Make sure you read the details and sign up for the appropriate review (course enrollee vs. non-course enrollee). Don't forget, enrolling in my courses gives you discounted + priority application reviews AND access to my exclusive Facebook community. I would love to be a part of your application journey!

Hi Reader - I hope your Sunday is off to a restful start. This week I’m diving into my last week of days as a sub-I, sharing medicine rotation tips, and dropping some reminders for those of you applying this cycle! What's New with You? I just wrapped up Week 3 of my Pediatrics Sub-I. For this rotation, I do three weeks of day shift (7am-6pm) and one week of evening shift (5:30pm-11pm). A lot of ED visits and admissions happen in the evenings, so this gives us a chance to have more experience...

Hi Reader, and Happy Sunday! I hope this week brought you something good. Here’s your check-in: part life update, part med school insight, and part premed wisdom. What's New with You? There is nothing like a 49 hour work week to welcome me into my pediatrics sub-I. I was so nervous going into this week because, as med students, we always want to impress. I had also been on some chiller rotations, so I expected an adjustment period getting back into the 10-12 hour work days. But I lucked out...

Hi Reader! Happy Sunday, and welcome to our weekly check-in. I can't believe we are already in May - 2025 is FLYING. Keep reading to see what's been going on with me in NYC and what resources I have available for you! What's New with You? On Friday, I wrapped up my first sub-I. Sub-Is, short for sub-internships, are rotations that fourth-year medical students complete where you act at the level of an intern, or a first-year resident. My first sub-I was Critical Care Medicine, which I spent at...
